The Impact of Farmland Conversion on Agricultural Production of Tehsil Takht Bhai, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan (1985-2015)
Abstract
This study is designed to observe the consequences of built infrastructure on agricultural production in the tehsil Takht Bhai from 1985-2015. The recent spatial techniques like Geographic Information System (GIS) and Remote Sensing (RS) tools are used to detect land use land cover change in the study area. The satellite imageries of Lan-Sat were acquired from the open source web Global Land Cover Facility (GLCF), the images obtained from this source were then classified and processed in ArcMap to determine a clear scenario of spatial and temporal land use dynamics in the area under investigation. Moreover, for the analysis of acquired data the Statistical tool, like correlation is used. The analysis showed that rapid physical expansion in infrastructure is reported in the area during the examination period from 1985-2015. The built area is increased about six times in the tehsil takht bhai during study hours, by engulfing agricultural land. Therefore, it is a dire need of the time for government and land use lanner to device new land use policies and strategies for proper land use, and to reduce further undesirable and unintentional physical expansion on agricultural land.
