Determinants of Participation of Women to Paid Labor Market Work and Unpaid Household Work
Abstract
This research work is an attempt to sort out the factors that affect the participation of women to the paid labor market and unpaid household work. The data is obtained from Labor Force Survey (2017-2018) and logit model is used in this study. We have found that age and higher education positively and significantly affected women’s participation to the paid labor market work. However, square of age, primary, middle, matric, and intermediate educational categories, being married, joint family system, and residential provinces of Sindh, KPK, and Baluchistan have a negative influence on participation of women in paid labor market work. In case of participation in unpaid household work, age, being married, and belonging to KPK province have a positive and significant influence. Age square and educational categories have significantly reduced the participation of women in unpaid household work. This study suggested that government should address the issue of declining participation of women in paid labor market by providing better working opportunities and also give due value to the unpaid household activities at the academic and social level
