Feminism in Pakistani English Literature: A Study in Post-Colonial Paradigm
Abstract
Since time immemorial, man and woman has always been the subject of interest for researchers. The following paper also aims at the same subject of gender study. It will offer a thorough examination of how females got themselves adjusted in Pakistani society with respect to the post-colonial background. This paper will also highlight the empowerment of females in Pakistani Society with respect to the patriarchal background. This entire task will be achieved with the view of the impact of colonialism on women’s role in Pakistani literature. The pioneering work description of feminism can be seen in literature written by Muslim writers even before partition as reformist. The main change and shift were seen in the second phase as the Progressive Writers Movement started which paved the way for feminism in Pakistan which is obvious by modern Pakistani writers living in or outside the country. It was the outcome of these writers that they largely discussed and analyzed the issues of female characters in Pakistani English Literature. This paper will highlight the harmful aspects caused by this slogan of feminism. It will also highlight its effects on Pakistani strata at large with respect to post-colonialism.
